Hariyali Teej falls on Shukla Paksha Tritiya in Shravana month ( श्रावण मास). Hariyali Teej is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Three famous Teej(s) which are celebrated by women during Sawan and Bhadrapada months are -
1. Hariyali Teej
2. Kajari Teej
3. Hartalika Teej
The Hariyali Teej festival is also celebrated to remember the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the day when Lord Shiva accepted Goddess Parvati as his wife. Goddess Parvati fasted and was austere for many years and was accepted by Lord Shiva as his wife on this auspicious day. Goddess Parvati is also known as Teej Mata.
On this day women pray and worship Goddess Parvati for conjugal bliss and happy married life.
On the auspicious festival, women and unmarried girls enjoy swing rides (jhulas are set up under the trees or in the courtyard) and Boys fly kites on this day
Apply mehendi, wear traditional clothes and pray to Goddess Parvati. Married women usually observe fast on this day and await the moon sighting during the night.
Sindhara Teej : Sindhara (सिंधारा) : On Teej festival married daughters receive the gifts by her mother such as clothes, bangles, bindi, mehandi and sweets like Ghewar (घेवर) etc. That's why also known as Sindhara Teej.
In some states Hariyali Teej is also called the Sawan Teej as it takes place during the monsoon season. 'Hariyali' or greenery, signifies the time when farmers across India sow their crops.
